A Hydrostatic Release Unit (HRU) is a critical safety device designed to automatically release liferafts or EPIRBs (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons) when a vessel sinks. The HRU activates at a preset depth, using water pressure to cut the securing strap and allow the liferaft or beacon to float free and deploy without manual intervention.
